She had never been more than a good time lover showing up for the rare happy occasions, vanishing at the first sign of gloom.
And yet, when she’d arrive unannounced at his doorstep, he’d welcome her with open arms and clutch her possessively to him, knowing their time together would be fleeting.
She was a flirtatious tease, a spawn of evil created to give him a taste of how sweet life could be, only to emphasize the bitterness of life without her.
They sang and danced away the days, under the bright summer sun. And held one another, rolling away the hours of the hot moonlit nights.
Her visits waned as the years tumbled past, until only dim memories of her warm embrace remained. Worn and gray he sits and waits, watching and hoping for one more taste of Joy’s sweet kiss.
